THURROCK edged this relegation six-pointer at Ship Lane following a controversial penalty decision.

The two teams were locked at 1-1, Matt Paine putting the hosts ahead and Ludovic Quistin replying — when Fleet were awarded a 57th-minute spot-kick when Cedric Abraham was judged to have fouled Che Stadhart in the box.

David Bryant saw his spot-kick saved by Fisher keeper Ashlee Jones, but stroked home the rebound.

That penalty decision might have looked soft, but it was a major surprise that another was not given minutes later when Bryant appeared to be brought down by Jones as he attempted to round him.

Although by no means safe as they are fifth from bottom but only five points clear of a Basingstoke side in the final relegation place from two games more, at least this win gives Thurrock some breathing space.

Tomorrow night they embark on a long journey to Bath City before visiting play-off hopefuls Maidenhead United next Saturday.
