Blindfold Nicole’s £500 for the RNIB

AN optician spent a day wearing a blindfold to raise awareness and cash for the Royal National Institute of Blind People.

Nicole Faulks, 23, of Eastwood Road, Rayleigh, travelled around the town centre with friend Sarah Hudson acting as her guide, to experience the difficulties encountered by blind and partially sighted people.

She raised about £500 for the charity along the way.

Nicole, who works as a dispensing optician at Audley Mills, in Rayleigh, said: “It went really well. It was amazing how people reacted to me.

“I would never do it again, it was awful. It’s so hard not knowing where you are. I’m glad I did it but it was daunting. I had a few accidents, like walking into bins.

“It’s the unknown. Everything becomes so much more difficult.”
