Speed camera is targeted by arsonists in the night
2:00pm Wednesday 24th June 2009 in
ARSONISTS torched a speed camera in London Road after putting a tyre around it and dousing it in petrol.
The burning camera, near the junction of Lymington Avenue, Leigh, was spotted at 3am yesterday by a resident who heard screeching tyres as the culprits fled.
Fire crews were immediately called and pulled the tyre off the camera, saving it from serious damage.
Leading firefighter Kevin Wheeler, of Leigh fire station, said: “We managed to save the camera, although there are a few scorch marks.” An investigation is under way.

one of them things flashed me .
it scared me that much the big flash i 5hit my pants and hit a parked car .
now i am getting done for speeding plus hiting the car .
to take the pee more the cops came and said there was no film in the camara but being i said it flashed i must of been speeding and still nicked me .
who says honesty pays.

and what evidence do they have? They were not witness to it, they've only got your word...
Anyway, didn't think these things used film any more - all teh images are instantly sent through to a main collection centre - at least that's what i thought? Torching the things makes no difference.
I will now point out that I am not against speed cameras, however I am against their use in blatent cash driving schemes - they should only be used in accident black spots, or outside schools or parks etc.

Won't need speed cameras soon. Just track peoples mobile phones by gps. Any mobile phone travelling at over the speed limit gets a ticket.
