Toy library opens on island

11:50am Monday 6th July 2009

LIBRARIES are not just for books, as users of Canvey’s newest institution are set to find out.

Canvey Island Community Toy Library, based in Furtherwick Park School, in Furtherwick Road, is opening today, offering parents, carers and childminders cheap access to a wide range of exciting toys and nursery equipment.

For a yearly registration fee of £5, users are able to check out more than 200 items, including toys, games, sports equipment, puzzles and books.

All the toys have been catalogued and copies of the catalogue are available at the Children’s Centre Caravan, on Thorney Bay Caravan Park and the Children’s Centre classroom at Lubbins Primary School, in May Avenue.

Tor Hayward, who has been involved with the development of the toy library, said: “When I first started working on this project, it quickly become clear to me there was a real need for a toy library on Canvey.

“With parents’ help, we believe we have put together a great selection of toys that will put a smile on children’s faces.”
