New look for South Woodham Ferrers town square

A TOWN centre square is undergoing a facelift in a bid to attract more visitors.

A three-month refurbishment programme, including new paving, granite benches, trees, new litter bins and coloured lighting, will begin at Trinity Square, in South Woodham Ferrers, on Thursday, July 23.

The area in front of the William de Ferrers sports centre will undergo extensive landscaping, with several trees being planted to create natural light and shade.

Norman Hume, Essex County Council’s cabinet member for highways, said: “This is an exciting scheme, which will make the public space in South Woodham Ferrers attractive for both visitors and residents. We know these are times of economic concern. We will be carrying out the work when many people are on holiday, and as quickly as possible, in order to minimise disruption.”

Russell Ayling, the headteacher at William de Ferrers School, said: “This looks like an excellent project. It is long overdue and will enhance this area.”

South Woodham Ferrers mayor Keith Miles said: “I am very pleased the replacement of the uneven surfaces and regeneration of Trinity Square is finally about to start.

“Following the re-paving of Heralds Way, this project marks the next stage in both creating a safer environment for pedestrians and the rejuvenation of the town centre, as set out in the plan for South Woodham Ferrers.”

Good, but town c needs more shops to attract vistors.
Problem is not a good time for retailers to invest / open new shops.

They might as well just expand Asda to take up the whole town centre.

Are there other shops apart from Asda in SWF?
