THIS is the garden design which won Southend Council a silver medal at the Hampton Court Flower Show.
The theme of the garden is Pastures Bye, inspired by the history of coastal grazing along the shoreline and estuaries of south Essex.
Derek Jarvis, Southend councillor responsible for culture said: “I am extremely proud of the work of our parks section which has produced an amazing exhibit.
“Exhibiting at the Hampton Court Flower Show gives us the opportunity to show an international audience Southend is not just a seaside resort, but has much more to offer.”
Last summer, the council’s drought-resistant show garden, called the Water Table won a bronze award at the show.
A central feature of this year’s exhibit is a mobile shepherd’s hut, which has been lovingly restored by craftsman Gerry Peachy. It also features a range of plants, chosen because they are well adapted to coastal climates.
