Watch out for bogus TV licence workers

PENSIONERS in Billericay are being urged to stay vigilant after a team of tricksters went on the prowl.

Three elderly women have already been targeted by the men posing as TV Licensing workers.

Although they have not taken anything or gained access to any homes, police say they are treating the gang as suspicious.

The suspected crooks have struck three times, twice in Little Norsey Road and once in West Cloister.

On each occasion the men, dressed in suits, knocked at the home of an elderly woman.

They claimed to be from TV Licensing and have asked to check each victim’s documents, although all three pensioners were exempt from having the licences because of their age.

Insp Sue Heaton of Billericay police said: “We aren’t really sure what these men were doing in the area, but they were acting suspiciously and checks have shown they aren’t who they claimed to be.”

The three men are all described as young. One was black and his accomplices were white.

The incidents happened on Wednesday, July 1 and Thursday, July 2.

Anyone with information about the men can call police on 0300 3334444.

Bogus or kosher, if you're a TV Licence worker you're going to get hurled off my property by the scruff of your neck.

Their both bloody thieves, the only difference is one lot get Government support for stealing.
