A POPULAR late-night bar can stay open and continue with its cheap drinks deal, as long as it abides by a strict set of conditions.
The Sky Bar on Basildon’s Festival Leisure Park faced possible closure after police appealed for its licence to be reviewed.
Yesterday, at a hearing, Basildon Council’s licensing sub-committee ruled the club could keep going, but had to stick by some new rules.
These included introducing plastic glasses and sending employees on a course to learn how to spot someone who has had too much to drink.
Chief Supt Maurice Mason, from Basildon Police, is convinced the bar’s controversial promotion deal, which gives people entry and all their drinks for between £12 and £15, is the cause of escalating trouble at Bas Vegas.
Sky Bar bosses disagree.

I don't think these drinks deals are good for anyone - ban drinks deals now! Most of the trouble makers are idiots with no job or a low income job and nothing to lose - put the prices up so they can't afford to drink so much, and you'll fix the problem! More educated people know better, drink in more respectable establishments and don't cause so much trouble for fear of losing their jobs.

I would also assume that a local Council must take note of the concern of the Police AND BACK THEM.
Failure to back the Police is a recipe for disaster.
I hope that the Council in their 'so called' wisdom have made the correct decision because IF they have not then I can visualise the end result, with comments like 'we told you so' after a serious incident.
Of course I hope that the Councillors that made the decision are free of any involvement with the premises.
