AN international charity working to support and empower girls has launched its UK arm in Southend.
Originally founded in Zimbabwe, the Girl Child Network Worldwide works to raise the aspirations of girls and tackle all forms of abuse.
Founder Betty Makoni launched the project at a ceremony at the Essex County Hotel, in Aviation Way.
Based at the Dove Project in Westcliff, the charity is hoping to reach out to African communities in the area and across the UK to change attitudes and work with and educate youngsters to help raise their aspirations and sense of self-worth.
For more information about the charity call 01702 302333 or visit www.girlchildnetworkworldwide.
