A LAP dancing club in south Essex has become the first in the country to gain a licence to hold weddings.
Katz Gentlemen’s Club will set the unusual precedent when it hosts its first ceremony on October 18.
The club applied for a licence last month, after a couple from Chelmsford visited for a fetish night and insisted they wanted their nuptials there too.
The couple are too superstitious to talk about their impending nuptials, but are said to be looking forward to having their big day at the venue in Time Square, Basildon.
Following a three-week public consultation period, and an inspection of the premises by Essex County Council, the licence to host marriages and civil partnerships for same sex couples was approved yesterday.
It is the latest in a number of unconventional wedding venue options.
You can also get married in a Southend casino, the windmill in Rayleigh and you can even swap vows in a tree house in Kent.
But Katz general manager Dean Kayne, 38, thinks they have now managed to plug a gap in the market.
He said: “As far as I know we are the first strip club in the country with a licence to hold weddings.
“What we are trying to do here is change people’s blinkered view of our establishment.
“The weddings we hold won’t involve strippers walking around, we are just making use of the very good facilities we have.”
Dean, who has ruled out the possibility of becoming ordained so he can marry couples, added: “We will have a registrar coming here from Brentwood, and the couple have organised their own band and caterers.
“We are looking forward to it and we hope it is the start of lots of memorable days.” here.”

Its not about getting married in a strip club with strippers its about be able to supply a venue for the local community.Katz main business is Lapdancing but basically its Bricks and Mortar!It is a venue that holds a variety of nights including Comedy/Music/Ladies nights 2 films that will be out soon were made there this year and we have photo shoots for local photographers too.Basildon hasn't got any venues to get married in apart from churches in the town centre and being able to supply somewhere that you can "tie the knot" and have your reception without having to get into your car and drive elsewhere.Katz its a very beautiful looking club and is in good surroundings with a big car park.It has disabled access and facilities,and can cater for any event.We can also marry same sex couples too.We are also looking at helping the happy couple with the arrangements and not just telling them "this is what we do and this is how much!". Lots of people want to get married but can't always afford the big fees from hotels etc so if they want to supply their own caterers thats fine if not we can suggest someone for them.We are there to help not to hinder.There will be no strippers at the weddings(unless they are invited!)

I agree with Katz, I am taking pole dancing lessons here to keep fit, and contrary to wot i thought its not sleazy and tacky inside, its classy, and the girls all seems lovely. so dont diss something that you know nothing about...

Katz-Basildon - that is quite the plug of advertising you did for the club.
However getting married in a lap dancing club, to me is pretty tacky and not something anyone I know would do.
