Manager at care home is arrested

A CARE home manager has been arrested on suspicion of stealing £30,000 from vulnerable residents.

Mahani Abdoolraheem, 46, is alleged to have taken the money from residents at Maplin care home in Church Road, Shoebury over two years. The home has 16 residents who suffer from Alzheimers or have learning disabilities.

In March, she moved on to work at Phoenix House, in Crowstone Road, Westcliff, which caters for six residents with learning difficulties.

Police raided the premises and arrested her and a 56-year-old man on Thursday, September 24, on suspicion of theft and conspiracy to commit theft.

Abdoolraheem, who lives in Lovelace Gardens, Southend, and the man have been released on bail until January 8.

Tony Cole, managing consultant for Phoenix House, said Abdoolraheem had since been sacked from her post.

He said: “She was originally supplied as an emergency manager by an agency, on a three-month temporary contract.

“We complied with all Care Quality Commission checks, CRB checks, and references and had no reason not to employ her. Having consulted with various agencies we have terminated her employment.”

It is very apparent that the perpetrator of this vile action had abused her priviledged position by persistently taking advantage of the most vulnerable people. These residents who lack mental capacity to understand and manages their own finances have been abused of their trust put into her hands. she had definitely failed to uphold the reputation of the professions and will continue to pose high risk to vulnerable people, should she somehow be reinstated to work in the care industry in the future.
Agree with the above comment by safetySam.
