SUPERHEROES and comic book characters appeared on Southend’s High Street as a group of youngsters raised money for a Westcliff charity.

Scooby Doo and Superman were just two of the costumes worn by the 12 members of a Prince’s Trust group, who are collecting cash for materials for a refurbishment of the Dove Project’s garden.

The group is working at the Dove project, part of Southend women’s refuge as a community project.

The Prince’s Trust was founded by Prince Charles to give young people a leg-up in to employment.

As well as the collection, which raised almost £400, the group have been bag packing in several supermarkets and also held a collection at Roots Hall at the Southend vs Southhampton game to raise a total of £860. Group member Steve Race, 25, donned a Superman costume to take to the street.

He said: “We got a great response from people while we were collecting.

“It was hard work but it was well worth it.”
