Pier medical centre had nine complaints

7:00am Thursday 5th November 2009

NINE complaints were made by patients about services at a GP surgery in Southend which was run by a private company, ChilversMcCrea.

Patients at the Pier Medical Centre in Northumberland Avenue, were unhappy about lack of continuity of doctors, dealing with locums, diagnoses and prescribing of medications.

The complaints were resolved by NHS South East Essex which has run the service since ChilversMcCrea decided to pull out of its contract in July this year by mutual agreement.

Karen Raymer, chairman of the patient group, was one of the unhappy customers.

She said: “My 12-year-old daughter went for an asthma check up and there was no examination of her lungs or chest and the doctor wanted to put her back on steroids, but I refused that and she’s doing fine.”

Andrew Stride, head of consumer relations said there have been no complaints since the trust took on July 25.
