SOUTHEND United are still not saying exactly where the £2.1million to pay off tax debts came from.
Legal action, which could have sent the League One club into administration, was dismissed at the High Court on Monday after one of the country’s top judges, Mr Justice Lewison, was told the debts had been paid off.
The club said: “We can confirm all action by HMRC was dismissed at the hearing, following the release of funds by the club’s chairman over the weekend. This brings the matter to a close.”
A fuller comment was promised later in the week, but has not yet materialised.
Fans have been speculating about whether the money came from a deal with Sainsbury’s over the development of Roots Hall.
