DOZENS of fundraisers teamed up for a marathon poledancing session. Members and instructors at Pole Dolls, in Southbourne Grove, Westcliff, held a 12-hour poleathon to raise money for the Bosom Pals Appeal at Southend Hospital.
About 40 people made sure there were dancers on the studio’s poles non-stop between 10am and 10pm.
The event also drew interest from people passing by, who popped in to watch the fundraisers in action.
Vicki Stansfield, manager of the studio, said it had been exhausting but worthwhile. She said: “It was a fantastic success. Our target was to raise £600 for the appeal and even though we’re still counting we’ve already beaten £750.
“A lot of our members turned up on the day and people came in too.
“I am a little tired today, as my shift was the last six hours.”
Miss Stansfield said the studio had proved extremely popular since it opened in April and already had around 500 members.
During the challenge people of all abilities whirled round the poles upright and upside down, as they displayed hundreds of different moves.
Mel Young, 32, of North View Drive, Westcliff, was happy to take part in the fundraiser and enjoyed the workout. She said: “I love doing this, because it is hard work, but there are loads of moves and it’s a lot better than just going to the gym.”
Once the money has been counted it will be donated to the hospital appeal, which is trying to raise £750,000 to buy imaging and diagnostic equipment for its breast unit.
