AN ADVENTUROUS bank worker is swapping his briefcase for a backpack, to trek along the Great Wall of China.
Richard Hewlett, 23, of High Street, Wickford, is taking on the seven-day challenge in his bid to raise £3,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
To get in shape, the former Westcliff High School pupil will be starting a grueling training programme along Southend’s not quite so historic, sea wall.
Richard will fly to China in April and then travel to the Yanshan mountains for a week of back-breaking hiking.
He said: “Cancer will touch all of our lives at some point. The range of services Macmillan Cancer Support provides, and how they support people, is awe-inspiring.
“Compared to what everyone at the charity does, I’m just doing my small bit.”
