SOUTHEND Pier has been closed to the public after water damage to the offices at the shore end of the world famous landmark over the weekend.

Derek Jarvis, councillor in charge of leisure, said electricty supplies had been affected and contractors were working to correct the problem.

It is expected the pier will open again within 48 hours.

I'm surprised anyone is bothering as Southend council has clearly abandoned the pier they have even removed it from the logo and sustituted a sperm so we forget the pier

This is not just the longest pleasure pier in Essex, this is not just the longest pleasure pier in England, this is not just the longest pleasure pier in the UK, this is not just the longest pleasure pier in Europe, it is the longest pleasure pier in the WORLD! It should be at the centre of any development/re-model
ling of the town.
And just what is that council logo supposed to represent??

The pier closed due to high winds right action was taken if people were still permited to go down just think of the flack and fines the council would have had to pay if somebody got blown over the side.

As for the Leccy the rain was driven UP up slate roof and under the tiles these "acts of god" happen your never going to stop it.
