COMEDIAN Russell Brand splashed the cash to help a charity in his hometown celebrate an important anniversary.

The funnyman, 34, who grew up in Grays, proved he was a generous man when he donated nearly £3,000 to the South Essex Rape and Incest Crisis Centre in Thurrock.

The cash from Brand, who recently became engaged to pop star Katy Perry, 25, meant staff could mark the centre’s 25th anniversary at Orsett Hall.

Sheila Coates, director of the centre, said: “We got in touch with his agent and asked if he’d help us because he was a local boy and grew up in Thurrock, and he did. We were really touched and the money meant we could have a party to remember.”

Maybe Russell Brand would approve of his £3000 donation being spent on a party. But I certainly would not. Surely it could have been put to much better use by actually helping someone?

£3000 on a party.......it will be one on a Russel Howard scale. Personally I think they can get a cold finger buffet from Asda for a maximum of £30 and pay another £30 to get one of their mates dads whos a DJ to come along.

Absolutely agree!

With money being so tight at the moment splashing it out on a party seems utterly wrong,

I know plenty of charities just as deserving that would not waste that amount of cash on a party

So what if it was an important anniversery

Shameful waste of precious money

Was the cash donated for the purposes of having a celebration? If not then how dare they spend the money on a party.
