A role in Wicked beckons for Lee Mead

Any Dream Will Do star Lee Mead is to return to the West End stage after landing a role in hit show Wicked.

The star – who grew up in Eastwood – shot to fame after winning a role in Joseph And the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Mead has been touring the UK in Oscar Wilde’s Lord Arthur Saville’s Crime, but will return to the London stage on May 10 to play the part of Fiyero in Wicked, now in its fourth year at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. Lee met his wife, Basildon-born Denise Van Outen, while makiing the 2007 BBC1 series Any Dream Will Do.

Earlier this week, the couple revealed they were expecting a baby girl, whom they have nicknamed “Teapot”.

Lee said: “I’m really excited to be returning to the West End.”
