A NEW film about legendary local band Dr Feelgood was screened for the first time in Southend and Canvey.

Tickets were sold out for last night’s screenings at the Moviestarr cinema, in Eastern Esplanade, Canvey.

The rockumentary, called Oil City Confidential, was also shown at the Odeon, Southend.

The film recalls the original band members’ childhoods on Canvey in the Fifties and Sixties. It is interspersed with footage of the Canvey floods in 1953, which killed 59 people, holidaymakers from East London staying at Thorney Bay Caravan Park and enjoying the island’s beaches, and the band’s late-great singer Lee Brilleaux drinking in the Grand Hotel, in Leigh.

The film will also be shown tonight and tomorrow night at the Moviestarr cinema, but not at the Odeon.
