THREE Billericay School pupils have designed winning posters as part of a campaign to make the town greener.

Year 9 pupil Stephan Garner, Katie Brewer, in Year 8, and Shanice Richardson in Year 10, designed posters to advertise the launch of the town council’s Greening Campaign.

The aim of the campaign is encourage residents to lower their carbon emissions and water waste.

At the heart of the initiative is making residents feel they can have an impact on tackling climate change by taking small actions at home, such as turning off lights, not leaving electrical equipment on standby, not leaving taps running when they brush their teeth, and closing the curtains at night to cut down on heat loss.

Residents will be asked to take up one of ten challenges including switching lights off, switching to low energy bulbs, washing laundry at 30c, and insulating their lofts.

Stephan won first prize in the competition and received a framed copy of his poster and a £25 i-Tunes voucher. Runner up Katie got a £20 voucher, and second runner up Shanice got a £15 voucher.

The Greening Campaign will be launched at a special public meeting on Tuesday, March 23, at 7.30pm at Emmanuel Church, in Laindon Road.

At the meeting, residents and community groups will be asked to pick a challenge and share how they got on at another public meeting to be arranged in June.
