Seeing a clamper van getting clamped and towed... priceless!

FOR many motorists, these picture of a prolific wheel-clamping firm’s van being clamped for having no road tax will be regarded as poetic justice.

An employee of Southend-based LBS Enforcement, which has demanded substantial payment from hapless motorists across the region, got a taste of their own medicine.

Southend Council spotted the car and swooped. The vehicle was clamped, towed away and impounded.

As it happened, an LBS tow truck arrived on the scene...seemingly just too late to save its own vehicle.

The drama unfolded in Lundy Close, Eastwood, at 9am on Friday and the scene was captured by an amused resident, who snapped the action on his mobile phone.

The resident, who didn’t wish to be named, said: “It was such a fiasco and so funny.

“The clampers obviously hoped to take the van away, but the council beat them too it!

“I don’t think they were amused as one of them stuck a finger up.

“I took the pictures because it was so hilarious and I think a lot of people will be very pleased to see them get clamped for a change.”

Imran Kazalbash, Southend council's team leader for waste management, said the action was authorised by the DVLA, which was contacted by the council after the discovery was made.

He said: “If the owner of the vehicle arrives at the pound to claim their vehicle, and they bring with them their up-to-date tax disc, it will cost them £100 to reclaim their vehicle. This was the situation with the vehicle in question, which has now been reclaimed.

“However, if people do not bring their up-to-date tax disc with them, they will be charged £260.

“They would then be refunded £160 if they returned shortly afterwards with their up to-date tax disc.”

When contacted by the Echo, LBS Enforcement declined to give an official comment as company director Mark Stone was on holiday.

However, an employee said the truck had been immediately retaxed and collected from the council on Friday, and blamed the situation on a clerical error.

Should have driven the scum to a cashpoint and demanded £400. Then thrown the book at them for having an untaxed (and therefore uninsured) vehicle on the highway.

Yes, I found this a perfect revenge against the cowboys but I was puzzled by the quote from the spokesman for Southend Council. £100 fee for recovery plus just £160 if no tax disc produced? Surely the law says it is a criminal offence not to DISPLAY a tax disc? Furthermore the LBS employee said the vehicle had been "immediately retaxed" which seems to indicate it was not taxed at the time the parking offence occurred.

We are told that when police stop vehicles which are untaxed they have the power to seize and crush them unless heavy penalties are paid quickly by the owner - why did LBS escape this? Also - did I not see double yellows where the van was parked? Just £260 for major parking offence, failure to display / failure to tax and towing /storage/ recovery. Reckon they got off far too lightly...

Justice would have been to treat them like they treat others and charge an exhorbitant fee

The Police should check this company's entire fleet to ensure each vehicle is duly taxed and insured.

Also - did I not see double yellows where the van was parked?
This Happened in Western Approaches (not lundy close) The double yellows were left over from last year when work was being done to replace the bridge, they were blanked out when the work was finished but have started to reappear (even jobs like removal of lines don't get done properly these days), still i agree the council should have thrown the book a bit harder at this mob.

This is what we have to put up with now, a gentleman from a vehicle clamping firm showing his finger to the public.
It is now common place to see unprofessional and loutish behavour by workers in the public sector.
Maybe I should not have used the word gentleman?

That charming clamper with his middle finger up is committing a public order offence, should anyone feel the need to complain to Essex police and make an official complaint, it would cost him a rather nice £80! ;) fixed penalty...

Clampers are fully trained in traffic law enforcement.

The finger action is part of that training it actually means 'a number one salute' of thanks to members of the public interested in their current activity.

It discusses the facts that LBS have 12 outstanding CCJ's against them !.

They are unlisenced by the clamping authority and they appeared to have been using a fraudulant VAT number, and we are supposed to pay these crooks money if we dare park in the wrong place !

It's about time, clamping was outlawed like in Scotland.

You can also report LBS for the below...
...

If a vehicle immobiliser uses threatening behaviour or intimidation they may be committing a criminal offence and we would recommend that you report such instances to the police.

..

I'd consider the one finger salute threatening and intimdating.

The London Road address for these people is indeed just a PO type box, mail company that collects letters etc for people, its a book shop near West Leigh Schools.

No point peeing through their letter box, as its nothing to do with them.......... However......

........Looking at their website, brought back some memories for me.

The yellow tow truck in their website pictures, and the barn its shown in with their vans, im sure thats at the junction of Canewdon Road/ lark Hill Road / Hydewood Lane, in the Ashingdon / Canewdon areas. Its next door and to the right of two cottages, which as far as i know have nothing to do with the company.

I have had dealings with these people, not wheel clamp related, they operate outside the law.

These people are boasting to earn £1900 a week from this. One of their methods is clamp you then tow you away to any local carpark, ie Homebase diy and leave your car there until you call them to pay for its release.anyone ever goiing to clacton beware they sit waiting in Agate rd which is near the seafront and they park the tow truck 2 mins away .

I was clamped by LBS and I took them to court, & won. They do not bother to turn up as they would rather be making someone else's day a bad one. If you pay be credit card you can try & claim the money back under the credit consumer act. No money has been forth coming from LBS. They have 11 un-satisfied CCJ'S. But I would advise that people continue to take them to court if the signs are not clear. They also caused over £100 of damage to my car.
They are now operating in Clacton & are hitting the local headlines up there.
Just remember :-
They park on private land themselves & wait for VICTIMS. Their appeal process is a waste of time.
They have been dropped by some of their customers after they realised there under hand ways !!
We just have to wait until the law is changed - clampers are not allowed to operate in Scotland !!!
