RESIDENTS are celebrating after a planning application to put up a phone mast was withdrawn.
Telecoms giant O2 wanted to put up the 41-ft mast in Warren Lane, Chafford Hundred, but has had to withdraw its plans due to a technicality.
But protester Tracey Law, 46, who is spearheading the campaign, said it was a victory for residents.
Mrs Law said: “No Masts On Chafford is really pleased to hear this news, and sincerely hopes O2 will recognise the level of public concern and not resubmit its application.”
Plans for another phone mast in Fenner Road will be heard at the next planning meeting.
O2 spokesman Jim Stephenson said: “The next step for O2 is to look at the paperwork, correct it and resubmit the application. We have no plans to permanently withdraw it.
“I think the campaign group has done well to get everyone together in a fairly new community, but I think it is wrong in what it is saying about the masts.
“I don’t think people will notice them and it will bring advantages for people who want broadband and to work from home.”
Local councillor Tunde Ojetola said: “I want to say thank you to Mrs Law and all the other people involved with No Masts on Chafford.
“We are still working hard to oppose the Fenner Road application.”
