POLICE are keeping an around-the-clock guard outside a house where a man was found dead.
Mystery still surrounds what exactly happened to the 43-year-old man, who died at the property four days ago.
Paramedics and police were called to the home in Long Gages, off Ghyllgrove, in Basildon, on Monday morning.
The home is rented by a couple who lived there with their children.
Following the man’s death, police were called into investigate.
They are treating the man’s death as “unexplained”. A post- mortem is expected soon.
In the meantime, officers are keeping guard outside.
Yesterday, a single officer stood on duty, while two squad cars were parked in a layby nearby.
Helen Cook, spokeswoman for Essex Police, said: “Police were contacted on Monday morning following reports a 43-year-old man had died at the address. Police are currently treating the death as unexplained.
“A post mortem will take place in due course to determine the cause of death.
“Police will remain at the scene until the cause of death is established in case further forensic examination is required.”
One resident of Long Gages, a man who did not want to be named, said: “The police have been here for three days and three nights.
“We heard there was some sort of domestic incident.”
Another man, aged in his thirties, added: “The police knocked on the door asking questions, but didn’t say what had happened.
“The couple who live in that house hadn’t been there very long.
“They were renting and kept themselves to themselves.”
