DRIVERS are being warned to make certain they lock their vehicles after a recent rise in thefts from cars.
Thieves got into three cars in Ennismore Gardens, Southend on Saturday night and two further thefts were reported in Waterford Road and Withypool Shoebury overnight on Sunday.
In each case, the car owners believe they had left their car secure, but thieves got in without any damage and took items including a briefcase, digital cameras, loose change and satnavs.
Inspector Leigh Norris said: “We’ve seen a recent increase in offences where we believe thieves are entering unlocked cars and searching inside. In some cases, they find nothing and simply leave the car in a mess – but we’re finding that with many they’re getting away with expensive items including satnavs and digital cameras.
“I cannot stress enough how important it is to take a minute or two to clear valuables out of your car when you leave it unattended and - wherever you are and regardless of how long you’re leaving it – always lock it up.”
Anyone with information about the thefts should call either Southend or Shoebury police station on 0300 333 4444.
