Teens tackle cops to win footy trophy and respect

COLLEGE pupils and coppers went head-to-head in a game of football.

The epic clash, set up by Basildon police’s schools officer PC Chris Burch, saw sixth-formers from the Upper Academy, in Wickford Avenue, Pitsea, take on their local bobbies in a bid to win the Academy Cup.

PC Burch said: “I arranged this so pupils would have a chance to meet their local officers in a friendly and fun environment.

“A lot of the parents came to watch, too, so it also gave them a chance to see an approachable side to their local neighbourhood officer.

“Officers do exist in the community to uphold the law, but they are also there to address concerns of local residents and work with other agencies to make life better for everyone.

“I hope this match has allowed people to see this human side to police officers, in the name of a bit of healthy sporting rivalry.”

The sixth formers won 3-2.
