A SQUAD of graffiti cleaners, street sweepers and park rangers are being sent to clear rubbish from a Vange housing estate.

The Basildon Council team will focus on the 3/4 estate and areas around Vange Hill Drive.

Residents are being given the chance to dump any unwanted belongings as part of a “rubbish amnesty” and their junk will then be taken away by the council.

The 3/4 initiative is the first of 13 estate clean-ups planned in the district.

Malcolm Buckley, councillor responsible for the environment, said: “The council is determined to keep the district clean. Periodic spring cleaning helps to add the sparkle we all want to see.

“I am delighted we shall be undertaking a further 12 similar events around the district this year. I hope residents will support the council in making our district an even better place to live.”

Luke Mackenzie, assistant councillor responsible for community, said: “As the ward member for Vange, I have been lobbying for the clean-up and welcome this event.

“The residents of Vange want and deserve to live in a clean and pleasant environment.

“The clean-up day will go a long way in improving the local environment, on top of regular services provided by the council.”

The big clean-up will cover 3,000 properties and will take place between 8am and 4pm on Saturday.

Residents wanting items collected should leave rubbish outside their homes by noon.

Details of the other areas to be cleaned up will be announced soon.
