Mum’s anger after yobs robbed son of new bike

A MUM has told how her ten-year-old son was left traumatised after yobs stole his new bike.

The schoolboy even tried to chase the thieves, but was warned off by other children who told him the thieves had a knife.

The mum, a 36-year-old woman from Basildon who did not want to be named, said: “I want other parents to be aware this is happening. These kids are just thugs.

“My son was really upset. I feel like I don’t want to let him out in case he gets faced with older boys again.”

The lad was playing with friends in Swanmead Park off Church Road, Basildon, on his new blue and white mountain bike with the name Les’s Cycle’s on it.

He was approached by two older boys, who wanted to borrow the bike. His mum said her son felt threatened and and reluctantly handed the £150 cycle over. The thugs fled.

The victim’s mum added: “My son had only had the bike a couple of days and it wasn’t insured.

“I’m not so much worried about the bike. I want other children to be careful too.”

Donna Veasey, spokeswoman for Essex Police, said officers are investigating the theft which happened at around 4.50pm on Tuesday.

One of the thugs was aged around 14 while his accomplice is thought to be about 17. One was wearing a distinctive green plastic cross pendant. Witnesses can call 0300 3334444.

Appalling and I fear more of this type of offence will occur.

Why because there is no fear of the law the Police OR anything OR anyone.

Personal pride and family values are now unfashionable.

And I lay the blame on New Labour who in the last 12 years has done more to help the Lawless, the benefit scroungers and the illegal immigrants than the hard working HIGH tax paying majority.

There is no deterrent's whatsoever and the Socialist state will now provide benefits and support to anyone regardless of who they are, i.e illegals, travellers, criminals.

Support comes from benefits regardless, human rights, civil rights etc etc.

Only the diehard Socialist could possibly defend the last 12 years, a period long enough to have changed any previous action OR inaction by the past Governments AND THEY HAVE FAILED !!!!

Labour are killing us.

My 11year old Autistic son had his bike stolen from outside our local shop just before xmas. He was just gaining a little independence and getting the confidence to cycle to the shop (literally just around the corner) on his own. He was beyond distraught. A hooded kid with shopping bags from the shop stole it and rode off.

Unfortunately he was silly not to padlock his bike and he has learnt a valuable lesson. Thankfully, Halfords had a half price deal on so I was able to buy him another bike, albeit not as nice as his original one.

I did consider going to the papers but as we didn't have the bike etched we couldn't prove anything and I didn't think the police would be very interested anyway.

I hoped that the young man who stole it needed it and wasn't going to sell it on - and at least my son wasn't threatened or intimidated.

My thoughts go out to this youngster and his family but it is not an unusual occurrence unfortunately.

I would have thought that household insurance might cover the theft ?

I think it does and I did think about claiming but I have to pay the first £50 or £100 anyway. In my case it just wasn't worth it.

essexboi1989 - they used to be in the 1970's so that they could appear in the Sweeney, since then they have shrunk considerably, probably due to the economy..

I'm so sorry Annyetta, that your son had his bike stolen. Sometimes I wonder about what goes on in some people's minds, thinking it's OK to take what isn't theirs, and I despair. Then I read your last two paragraphs again and my hope rises. If only we could all be so adult and forgiving, not carrying anger and sharing around. You've made my day. Thank you.
