What is interesting to notice is here and I'm sure throughout the county and country, many of the candidates according the ballot papers are not local. I wonder if that seriously influences voters apart from party politics.

Even more interesting is the fact that MP's who have wrongly claimed expenses are being re-elected with even higher shares of the vote. When I was a student two of the reasons that put me in favour of the First-Past-the-Post were the local link, and the fact that bad eggs can be removed by local constituents even if their party supports them (something impossible under Single Transferable Vote with a party list).

However, the scalps claimed by the expenses scandral have largely been those that lost the backing of their parties so didn't stand again, and as the poster above states, many do not live in the area that they represent.

'Rising Tory Star' Francois came back down to earth with a bump after his mate Dave overlooked him for the 'Euro' position in cabinet.

Oh dear, what a pity, never mind.

Karma is a wonderful thing.
