Cliffs Pavilion closes for refurb

THE Cliffs Pavilion will be closed for productions for seven weeks while it undergoes a facelift.

The theatre in Station Road, Westcliff is to get new auditorium seats and carpets.

After 18 years of wear and tear all 1630 seats are to be replaced.

The work is being funded by Southend Council and mean the theatre will be closed for productions from July 19 to September 5.

Theatre operators HQ Theatres are funding the cost of replacing the carpets in all the foyer areas.

The new improved Cliffs will re-open on September 6 with the touring production of The Rocky Horror Show featuring Christopher Biggins as the narrator.

The rest of the building, including the Foyer Bar, will remain open as usual and there will be a special programme of additional entertainment, such as tribute bands, weekend breakfasts, an ice and roller skating rink, a family fun day and a beer & cider festival laid on throughout July and August.

NATIONAL cost-cutting measures have seen £1.4million of Government funding withdrawn from Southend Council.

The loss of the money, which was pledged in the form of capital and revenue grants, will mean cuts will have to be made to several grant-aided services.

The austerity measures will be implemented with immediate effect, and councillors will discuss where the cuts will have to be made at a meeting on Thursday.

Funding for the free swimming programme for youngsters and older people has also been removed, meaning the council is withdrawing the service from the end of this month.

Also set to suffer are plans for a £660,000 athletics track at Chase High School, which will now not go ahead.

Open your eyes people!

They aer not refurbing!

They had to close due to the alien infestation under the main stage.

The other world visitors have gained a foorhold in the region since the glare from the pier fire caused them to take interest (they thought it was a supernova and were drawn here to study its effects)
The mysterious beach weeds, the constant alien abductions and now this!

This is a classic case of alien activity and goes to back up the fact that south east essex is a hotbed of alien activity.

I think Mr See-the-Real may be in need of some urgent help and a reality check...I recommend the Tory manifesto as a replacment for the book at bedtime.

So your coucil can cut projects for schools and pensioners, but still find the funding to refurb a profit making venue. What a suprise! Maybe Anna waite will be able to convince them to put in a resturant for good measure too? Thats what southend needs! More profit for private organisations!
