7:15pm Monday 12th July 2010

THE Cliffs Pavilion will be closed for productions for seven weeks while it undergoes a facelift.

The theatre in Station Road, Westcliff is to get new auditorium seats and carpets.

After 18 years of wear and tear all 1630 seats are to be replaced.

The work is being funded by Southend Council and mean the theatre will be closed for productions from July 19 to September 5.

Theatre operators HQ Theatres are funding the cost of replacing the carpets in all the foyer areas.

The new improved Cliffs will re-open on September 6 with the touring production of The Rocky Horror Show featuring Christopher Biggins as the narrator.

The rest of the building, including the Foyer Bar, will remain open as usual and there will be a special programme of additional entertainment, such as tribute bands, weekend breakfasts, an ice and roller skating rink, a family fun day and a beer & cider festival laid on throughout July and August.
