SAINTS booked their place in the second round of the Carling Cup with a 2-0 win over Cherries at St Mary's tonight.
Adam Lallana and Alex Chamberlain's second-half goals were enough to send Saints through, after what was not a totally convincing display from the hosts.
The visitors had by far the better of the first-half and probably considered themselves unfortunate not to be leading at the break.
However, Saints stepped on the gas after the interval and dominated much of the second-half, with Rickie Lambert making his first appearance of the season late on.
Alan Pardew's men now go into the hat for tomorrow's second round draw.
