Cabin cruiser rescued in fading light

THE light was fading fast when Southend’s inshore D class lifeboat was called out to rescue a cabin cruiser Friday evening.

After losing all power it was drifiting out to sea and away from Shoebury Common but nobody was injured.

The lifeboat crew discovered the outboard motor, its only source of power, had fallen off and sunk and they towed the boat back to the old council loading jetty.

More to the point it was towed to the old council loading jetty...

It was demolished years ago.

As usual it's another chavvy motor boat owner who calls for help when they really shouldn't be out there in the first place. When will the RNLI start charging these ignorant motor boaters for their rescue.

I always tie a line from the outboard onto the tender when I use it, basic common sense.

Maybe they threw the outboard out deliberately, believing it to be the anchor?
