A MAN has pleaded guilty to killing 88-year-old Rosina Waller after hitting her with a concrete pot.

At Chelmsford Crown Court, Hassan Salahi, 34, of Cunningham Close, Southend pleaded not guilty to a charge of murdering Mrs Waller, but admitted manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

The court heard that Salahi broke into Mrs Waller's home in Johnstone Road, Southend on January 1 and struck her several times with a concrete plant pot.

A 64-year-old relative from Southend was also injured in the attack.

Salahi was also charged with the attempted murder of the relative, GBH with intent and aggravated burglary.

The court decided that these three charges would remain on file.

The hearing was adjourned until sentencing on a date to be arranged.
