A TEENAGER who beat bone cancer and won an award for her bravery, is doing even more to raise awareness of the killer disease.

Megan Blunt, 18, has joined forces with Richard Branson’s daughter Holly Branson, 28, to support Bone Cancer Awareness Week, which begins on Saturday. She is promoting the charity’s new website set up to help sufferers.

Megan, of Sylvan Tryst, Billericay, is backing the launch of the Bone Cancer Research Trust’s new website, which offer a wealth of information for people living with bone cancer and their families.

The information on the new site has been reviewed by a panel, including medical experts, patients and their families.

Megan was diagnosed when she was 12, and went through six cycles of gruelling chemotherapy and a painful operation to remove part of the bone in her leg, replacing it with a metal rod.

She said: “This is the type of information I would have loved to have had when I was first diagnosed with bone cancer.

“Because it’s so rare, I felt so alone as there weren’t many people who I could talk to.

“The support network on the website will be brilliant for people with bone cancer and their families, as they can get in contact with people who know what they are going through and understand how they feel.”

Bone cancer is very rare, but is often diagnosed late, as the pains associated with it are often attributed to growing pains. Holly Branson, the daughter of Virgin billionaire Richard, is fronting the website campaign alongside Megan.

Megan, who has been in remission for five years now, won a Pride of Britain Award in 2007 for her battle.

She also wrote a book about her experiences entitled Chemotherapy, Cakes and Cancer.

Megan’s book was acclaimed as a frank and moving account of her battle with the disease.
