MULTI-award winning folk artist Martin Simpson will wrap up the first arts season at Wat Tyler Country Park, Pitsea, with a special appearance next week.

The guitarist has been nominated 23 times at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, more than any other performer and has won the coveted Musician of the Year award twice.

His new album, True Stories, got six nominations this year and won the award for best track.

Wat Tyler Country Park has seen success with gigs from the Claire Harper Jazz Trio and the West African Blues Project.

Councillor Kevin Blake, cabinet member for arts and leisure, says Basildon Council has plans for a new season in the spring.

He adds: “Wat Tyler Country Park is a superb venue for hosting concerts such as this. The three performances have all been very different, and with the final show being folk we have secured a great name in Martin Simpson.

Martin performs at Wat Tyler Country Park at 7.30pm on the 27 November. Tickets are £12. Call the Towngate Theatre on 01268 465465, or visit www.essex-live.co.uk
