Philip Miller is without doubt a true local entrepreneur.

All credit to him he is looking for ideas to boost regeneration within Southend.

Forget the arty suggestions from Chalkwell Park HQ! I commend London Mayor Boris’s idea for a Thames Estuary airport and the forgotten, yet brilliant, plan of a marina suggested by George Walker to encompass our pier foolishly discarded by an unimaginative Southend Council of yesteryear.

Southend needs serious engineering, not soppy cycle lanes and gasping palm trees or poncy art trails!

Tony Garner, a local man with vision suggested a rollercoaster with massive investment for our pier. He was turned down by councillors.

Not right! Bring back those Victorian representatives of us ratepayers who were brave and intuitive and shaped the original blueprint of a town on the up.

Just imagine the local employment prospects that a marina or international airport could generate.

We will never attain to the media Brighton celebratory status while we involve ourselves with kiss-me-quick wish-you-were-here cheap attractions.

It takes more than a few high-rise lamp pillars and pathetic half-dead pacific foliage to let the world know that we know business.

Philip Miller is a good guy, he knows his stuff.
