A FORMER school building which has been used by generations of pupils for years is up for sale with a price tag of £595,000.

Possible future uses for the former Sutton County Primary School, Fleethall Lane, Rochford, could include housing or being used as a school again.

The 2,830sq ft building, built in 1910, belonged to the Crowstone Preparatory School, Westcliff, until recently.

It comes with a variety of outbuildings and two acres of land, close to the Purdey’s Industrial Estate, Rochford.

Mike Gray, managing director of property consultants Dedman Gray, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for somebody, a developer, investor or businesses looking to expand.

“It is obviously ideally suited to be an educational or training facility of some kind, but it could be developed into some completely different commercial enterprise. The school house is a really attractive building, just in need of some refurbishment.”

Crowstone Preparatory School took over the building for older youngsters because of expanding pupil numbers in the late 1980s.

The building was used as a school until 2008, when cutbacks led Crowstone Preparatory School to concentrates its operation on its Westcliff site.

Mr Gray added: “The land is perfect for a residential redevelopment, subject to planning consent, and the schoolhouse could even be turned into a large house.”

Charles Tabor, chairman of the Sutton with Shopland Parish Council, who lives in Sutton Hall opposite the building, said: “As far as I know it is green belt land.

“So the only thing that could happen to it is that it is converted into a house or used as a school again.”
