ARMED police officers surrounded Wickford High Street due to fears about a man with mental health issues.
There were fears that a 50-year-old man may have had a gun in a building.
He had been missing from his Billericay home on Thursday and his family had concerns about his welfare.
Police eventually led him out of a building in the High Street in the early hours of Friday morning.
He was taken to hospital for a medical and mental health assessment.
Police said he was a registered firearms holder, but no weapon was found at the scene.
His licence has now been revoked.
