A huge shed should never have been granted planning permission, an angry neighbour has claimed.

Robert Gray, of Villa Road, Benfleet, contacted Castle Point Council after his neighbour Robert Mills put up a 4-metre-high shed in his back garden in Sydney Road, without obtaining planning permission.

However, a review by the authority’s building inspectors found the storage shed complied with all planning regulations.

Mr Gray, 67, is furious, as he believes it totally dominates his back garden.

He added: “It’s the sheer size of it.

“Whatever window I look out of I can just see it looming there.

“For that to be allowed to go up, I just can ‘t get my head around it.”

The building, which is 4.6-metres wide and 6.5-metres long, is currently covered is blue sheeting, but will be timber-clad when it is finished.

In a written report on the planning application, the council’s chief planning inspector Kim Fisher said as the shed was ten metres from the rear of Mr Gray’s home it did not dominate his property.

Mr Mills said: “I can’t understand the guy’s problem.

“What is the point of having building regulations if he’s still moaning about it?

“The council sent out letters to five of our neighbours and he was the only one who complained. I think that says it all.”

Mr Mills has also applied to build a two-storey rear extension to his home.

The application is currently being considered by Castle Point Council.
