£30,000 makeover for kids’ play area at Pomfret Mead

A PARK is set to receive a £30,000 makeover as part of a planning agreement.

Old play equipment at the Pomfret Mead play area, off The Gore, Basildon, will be taken away and replaced with brand new swings, a slide, a rope ladder and a climbing net.

The money has come from Barratt Wilson Bowden, which is building 144 new homes on the site of the old swimming pool, car park and netball court at Gloucester Park.

Phil Turner, Basildon councillor responsible for resources, added: “We are committed to investing in our key play areas across the borough, and I am delighted that we can use £30,000 of external funds to do this.

“These improvements will encourage more parents and grandparents to take their children to use the play area and will help to make it a focal point for the community.”

The works will be carried out by Surrey-based SMP Playgrounds and will be tested and ready to use by September 7.

ooh look it's Blakey. Must be back off his holidays. Make sure this stuff you're putting in is fireproof given that almost every ther park refurbished recently gets arsoned!

What wonderful timing? Completed just as the kids go back to school.

Is he trying to 'buy' the public round there with this pathetic gesture. Near total decimation of Gloucester park with over 500 houses due to be built there and he recently said to someone that if he had his way he would build a hotel on the park.

How about putting up some fences around the parks, banning dogs and having a patrol to lock/unlock the gates and patrol?

Then you could refurbish the parks, they'd be less likely to be vandalised, they'd last longer and real families could use the parks.

At the moment, my local parks are full of chavs with 'hard' dogs, which they bait with the swings and let 5hit all over the grass, drinkers and teenagers scrawling over anything they can and ripping up the flooring.

Ah, F it- I should really just move to Billericay.
