Man’s nose is broken in gang attack (From Echo)

In Pennsylvania (USA) yesterday a 65 year old man was pushed off his bike, beaten and robbed by a gang of 16 year olds. He pulled out a gun (because in America you are allowed to protect yourself – seems crazy when u live in the UK) and shot them in self defence. One died, one was wounded and the others run away like a lil bi**hes! The police arrested the youths who were still alive and decided to release the 65 yr old man without charge. 49 out of 50 states now have concealed carry licenses too and that’s exactly how it should be here. When criminals know the public (law-abiding) have guns they think twice (except for these idiots). Anyone who disagrees has either not had this happen to them or believes the indoctrination that we are fed!

people probably saw lots of 'gangs' of teenagers wearing 'hoodies' around that time of day as they were probably going home from the nearby Basildon Upper Academy (aka Chalvedon School).

Totally agree with you R85 we live in a Britain (i say Britain instead of Great Britain as i do not believe we have the right to call ourselves Great anymore with how we have let this society go.) who's society has been going to hell for a long time. I often hear my in-laws saying they remember a time when if as a kid you did wrong the local policeman would give you a clip round the ear and tell you he would be round to speak to your father, which would scare you more as you knew you would then be in line for a good hiding from your father as well. You could also go out and leave your front door unlocked or a window open when you popped round to see a neighbour and come home to find all your belongings still there. If you tryed that now you would come home to find your whole house empty. I believe that as this society has gone with kids no longer scared of the police or the law and now see it as more of a status symbol if you get arrested for a crime it is now time that the honest British public be allowed to protect themselves, there family and there property by any means. if that means carrying a gun and shooting any low life who trys to attack you or your property then so be it. "We all have a choice and its the choices we make that make us who we are and we can always choose to do what is right" that is what i believe. If some low lifes make the choice to commit a crime and end up losing there life well that's there own fault they made there choice and they have to suffer the consequences.

Yes Indeed EchoDave! It’s controversial over here, however if only more people had your/our mindset. Well for one, if judges and members of juries had this mindset – I can only imagine how Britain would improve – how we could start to turn the page on this dark era! I really feel for the police too – countless times their hard work and dangerous efforts go unrewarded – what with the lenient (or non-existent) sentences that are handed down by the courts and the punishment the police themselves receive for the slightest infringement. Being in the EU hasn’t exactly helped either – god da*n EU Court of Appeals, lol! Self-defence (and family defence) by any & all means should be a fundamental, unchallengeable human right for each and every human being on the planet.

So how many innocent people get Killed by the amount of Guns that are readily avaliable on the streets on the US, instead of being punched more people will be shot, its the same as saying bring back the death penalty it does not work as a deterrent in any of the countries it is used.

More/better policing and harsher prison sentances are required, hard labour to prisoners if needed.

Make comiting a crime a punishment, also make prisoners serve 85-95 percent of their sentance before even considering early release for good behaviour. 10 years= at least 8.5 -9.5 served!

Hope the victim makes a fast and full recovery, but surely the issue here is that you dont use subways, even during daylight hours.

Do you think that America would suddenly allow practically all states to carry concealed weapons just like that? There were extensive studies done and it has been statistically proven that in communities where the average Joe has a gun, street crime, muggings, burglaries etc have been lower. Admittedly there are different studies with different results, however generally they found that crime was lowered. It is naivety to think otherwise and it’s what the anti-gun nuts want you to think! Would you prefer a society where only criminals have guns (apart from the odd farmer etc).

One of the main anti-gun campaigners in American politics (can’t remember, was from the Senate or congress or something??? – he was high up though) had masked robbers stick a gun in his and his familys (including young daughter) faces! The very next morning he was on the TV a turned around man due to the experience and began advocating gun ownership! It’s hotly debated but it IS right – not opinion! People say if there were guns on Virginia Tech campus, the 33 odd people could have been reduced to 1 or 2!

I use them, when they're not ankle deep in rainwater that is. Rarely, if ever see anyone else using them though.
