FIREFIGHTERS tackled a fire at a house this afternoon.
Crews from Southend were called to Station Avenue, Westcliff, at 2.40pm today after a washing machine caught light.
The resident spotted smoke coming from the machine and left the house after shutting the door to the utility room.
When firefighters arrived they found the room full of smoke but as the door had been closed the damage was only in the utility room.
Crews donned breathing apparatus and put the fire out before using a fan to clear the house of smoke.

This is hardly headline news is it? The fire service are the least busy of the emergency services, but are the best at shouting about every little job they do.

Thought not! Fyi - you need someone in charge of comms on the fire-ground so details of the incident can be passed back to the control room where decisions to increase pumps.resources can be made.
