Dog rescued from Wickford house fire

12:57pm Sunday 29th January 2012

A DOG was pulled from a house fire by firefighters.

Crews were called to Ruthven Close, Wickford, at about 8pm last night after neighbours smelt smoke.

No one was home so they smashed the front door but when they got inside they found the German Shepherd laying unconscious in the lounge.

Firefighters from Wickford and Rayleigh Weir took the dog outside into the fresh air and gave it oxygen. An emergency vet was called and after about an hour the dog came back round and was taken with the vet.

The fire started in the kitchen and the semi-detached house was left completely smoke-damaged.

The dog has now made a full recovery and will be returning to its owners today.
