POLICE have carried out 20 drugs raids across Southend this morning.
A hundred officers were brought in to bash down doors in search of class A drugs.
They arrested 13 people after gathering intelligence since last October
The first phase happened at about 7.30am when they carried out simultaneous busts.
These included an address in Station Road, Westcliff, where no one was inside.
This led police on to Malvern flats, in Coleman Street, in an effort to catch their man there.
But again the flat was empty.
Another raid happened at a flat in Hainault Avenue, Westcliff, where a drugs dog was sent inside but nothing was found.
Phase two of the operation happened at 9.30am with another series of busts co-ordinated by a fresh team of officers.
They stormed a flat in Palmerston Road, Westcliff, and arrested a man on suspicion of drugs offences.
FOR FULL REPORT SEE TOMORROW'S ECHO.

Wouldn't it have been better to find out if they where in first before smashing the door down, now they know the police are looking for them..

Drug dealers dont really take drugs, infact they maintain themselves pretty well and are pretty healthy, they do time inside, pump themselves up, then go back out again. People only hate drug dealers because they wish they was like them, no 9-5 job, and making a stackful of cash.
Well, at least the Police are being seen to be doing something about the worsening drugs problem. Let's hope that the 13 people arrested are kept in custody until they can be brought before a magistrate, rather than simply being released on "Police Bail", free to carry on peddling death & misery

Bosniavet wrote:Who says "the drug problem" is "worsening"? Drugs have been readily available since the late 60s, as you'd know if you got out more. As for these people "peddling death and misery", how do you know that? It doesn't say which drugs were actually found or whether the quantities are wholesale or personal level. If it was just a bit of weed then they were spreading joy and happiness not death and misery you muppet.

As a taxpayer, who will no doubt be called upon to pay for the repairs to the multiple doors that have been bashed down, I would ask that the plod carry out a little more research (per J Essex post above) before carrying out these operations. How many of the 20 doors actually had a bad mo/fo behind them?

Of course whats interesting here is the location Westcliff ,a once proud and nice part of southend with large well maintained houses with nice respectable hard workign families , which has now decended to this level due to lax planning laws allowing the mass conversion of once fine houses into multiple flats with no parking or supporting services (endorsed by our council). These are then largely occupied by drug users who prefer to be unemployed by the sea side. Hence the repeated incidence of drug raids its not rocket science ?

interesting thoughts about checking if people are in first but i would have thought speed was of essence so they dont destroy any evidence. one whiff of the police and they will get rid of it surely?
