Police make Essex metal theft arrests

POLICE arrested 14 people in Essex and Kent as part of a metal theft crackdown.

Kent Police and Essex Police teamed up today, February 8, to target metal theft across both counties.

Search warrants were executed in Grays and Romford in Essex as well as Ramsgate, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and Tenterden in Kent and Canning Town in East London.

The operation, which was aimed at disrupting the illegal trade in stolen metal, also resulted in the seizure of thousands of pounds worth of lead and cable.

Ten arrests were made in Kent for offences including handling stolen goods, supplying a controlled drug and possessing a Class A drug.

In Essex, a 25-year-old man and 52-year-old man, both from Grays, were arrested on suspicion of the attempted handling of stolen goods.

A man from Romford and a man from Canning Town were arrested on suspicion of the same offence.

Unfortunately I fear you are correct, it should not, but it most likely will.

Such a sickening crime. I hope the police crack this one. On the other hand, very heartening news yesterday to hear of the scrap owner paying for a new WWI memorial.

At last the coppers get the copper keepers. The scrap metal thing has been going on for too long now. Boilers getting ripped out of homes and railways left with severe delays. I think the scrappers should demand a driving licence to be shown when cashing in scrap and the details recorded.
I know a lot of these people have no fixed abode so they should be stopped scrapping by the id thing.
I didn't say it mincier (although you know I'm thinking it)lol

Good news that arrests have been made, but I am left wondering how many will actually be convicted & given a punishment that will discourage them & others from continuing in this trade.
I don't care who these people are, or from which "community" they come from, they are criminals & must face the full force of the law.

Scrap dealers should not be allowed to pay in cash but by cheque or bank transfer only. That will stop a lot of these thefts, if they can't get ready cash then there is little point in stealing.

Talking of caravans Ockendon Paul, I have wondered whether the traveller site along Buckles Lane, Ockendon is legally allowed to be so huge.

Go to Google maps and look at the size of the site!

It is bigger than Dale Farm.

Cool, looks like people are settled for the winter. Anything wrong with human being's being secured against the elements during the worse of the weather?

What about those who dont need to pay taxes? Should they pay also, just to be on the safe side? "correct manner" Who decides what that is?

The poster clearly believes Traveller doesn't pay taxes, my post challenges that.
