A HOMELESS man had to be rescued from a burning empty office block last night.

Firefighters from Southend had to wake up the 19-year-old after they were called out to Carby and Heath House in Victoria Avenue at about 9.05pm.

Or spend a lot less money converting them into affordable housing.

What are we doing in the uk when a young man has to sleep rough, I know of a few people living like this in the town, some with mental health problems , some are just scared and homeless, those with the real problems slip past the system while crafty dodgy types who know the system get all they want , one point I would make is never seen a foreigner sleeping rough or an overweight bulgarian at the homeless center , and dont say they get off their but and work , that would be funny

Who is going to pay for the demolition in these times of austerity?

The same people who are paying for everything: us, the taxpayers.

It's the same old story where capitalism is concerned: privatised profits and socialised losses.

Why are these buildings not demolished before they fall down they are a disgrace on the town.

The area in Victoria Avenue is an eyesore, why not turn this section in to homes and move those from the tower blocks. I'm sure an architect could put together a more appealing entrance to the town and use the footprint in a more pleasant way, even providing gardens! what a novelty. Get rid of the blocks - once their gone, build a mixture of residential/commerci
al properties and am mixture of tenants/home owners.

Come on Southend be adventurous - a grant must be available from somewhere....... afterall we are a coastal town aren't we!

they'll have to spend a million quid on an artist' impression first while making the decision t completely ignore the opinions of the local residents....

The disgrace is that there are perfectly good buildings standing empty while we have people living on the streets through a lack of affordable and social housing.

Turn them into flats.
