A children’s face painter and entertainer, dog microchipping and street dance sessions are just some of the free attractions taking place at the Honeypot Lane community day this week.
The Basildon Community Safety Partnership (CSP) is holding the event at the United Reformed Church in Honeypot Lane from 11am until 3pm on Friday (February 17).
The CSP, a statutory partnership which includes Basildon Council and Essex Police, will host a number of activities and stands throughout the day to encourage local residents to get involved in their community and tackle local issues. The day is being run as part of the Community Safety Action Zone (CSAZ) in the area.
There will be a children’s entertainer and face-painter from Partyman between 12 – 2pm to entertain youngsters whilst their parents find out more about becoming involved in their community. There will also be a drop-in Street Dance taster session between 1pm –3pm for youngsters.
Basildon Council’s animal control officer will also be microchipping dogs for free (usually £20) and giving out ID tags, flea combs, poop bags and advice to encourage responsible pet ownership.
Representatives from Neighbourhood Watch, Basildon Council's Anti Social Behaviour Team and Resident Involvement Team, Essex County Council's Youth Service and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) will be on hand to offer advice to residents relating to crime and anti social behaviour.
There will also be arts and crafts for children to take part in as well as free refreshments.
Councillor Frank Tomlin, Basildon Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for community safety, said: “Community Days like this are an excellent way to find out more about what can be done to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour. I hope as many residents as possible come along to find out how they can take an active role in improving their community.”
Local residents are also invited to attend the next public meeting which will take place on Tuesday 6 March at the Basildon United Reformed Church on Honeypot Lane from 7pm.
