Bronze, silver and gold trees being planted in Castle Point to celebrate olympics

BRONZE, silver and gold trees will be planted to celebrate this summer’s olympic mountain biking event in Hadleigh.

They will be planted on Monday (February 20) at the new Canvey Gateway Site, off Canvey Road, next to Benfleet Yacht Club, and Hadleigh Memorial Recreation Ground, off London Road, on Wednesday (February 22).

Two golden alder, two silver birch and two bronze maple trees will be planted at each location.

In September plaques will be added to the trees detailing the bronze, silver and gold medallists of the men’s and women’s events at the olympic mountain bike event, taking place at the Hadleigh Castle country park.

Children from Lubbins Park Primary School, in Canvey, and Kingston Primary School, in Benfleet, will help plant the trees.

I hope the Dave Blackwell from the garden centre is not involved as his trees on Canvey Way have hardly done well!

What happens if there is a dead heat in the Olympics?

How can they be planting trees when there is a policy in Essex and CPBC not to plant trees on public/highway land due to ongoing maintenance. Will the trees be artificial?

Don't worry, Southend Council will be along soon enough to cut them down.

Lets hope it really happens, not like when it was said replacing the line of cyprus trees that were lost in the 1987 hurricane and were recognisable by everyone as the hadleigh/leigh border would happen

We can have a tree race & see what tree dies first. After ECC or CPBC fail to tend them. Wait for the idiots to break the branches & then the trees.

How lovely!! Can't seem to get very excited about bikes tearing round Hadleigh!! Bad enough on our pavements.

This is the biggest event ever to occur in Castle Point in fact nothing of any happens in Castle Point !

In reality it is a really boring place.

Are we going to have people walking & cars parked on the downhill course to make it more life like, seeing as a lot of cyclists go on the pavements & cars park on the pavements?

Now that is interesting, but good that trees are to be planted.
A lot of Neighbourhood Meetings wanted to plant trees as happened at the Canvey East Meeting, but the couldn't because of "on going costs".
Would you not have thought using funds all ready allocated could have been used to plant the trees and the "on going costs" like early watering and possible lopping being picked up would have resulted in more trees being planted?
No brainer really is it, but that is how Castle Point Council view it.
Confused? Contact Castle Point Council Attn of Chief Executve Mr D Marchant and Councillor Challis Leader of Castle Point Council he and she will explain.

The bikers have got a great terrain to do their stint work during the Olympics & the glitzy trees will add a bit of spice to the venue & the local scenery !

A positive and constructive comment for once. Thank goodness someone has the good grace and decency to praise this historic initiative.
