Adventure Island on Southend seafront has set a new world record for the most naked people to play a miniature golf course in an hour.

Called Pitch and Butt, people taking part started the challenge at the theme park's crazy golf course. Thirty people who turned out helped set a new record, including the Echo's chief features writer, Tom King.

Cash raised will go to the Prostate Cancer Charity.

Appropriately, Adventure Island is already a naked World Record-breaking venue - 102 people stripped off to set the record for ‘Most Naked People on a Rollercoaster’ on 8 August 2010.

The park also holds the record for the World’s Largest Portion of Chips (448kg, 29 June 2011).

This time, the fun park offered people the chance to take on the 18-holes of the Adventure Golf course and raise funds and awareness for the worthwhile Charity.

Adventure Island Managing Director Marc Miller, said: “It’s been an absolutely superb day with people all enjoying the chance to do something memorable, have good fun and raise a large amount of money for a fantastic, charity, of which we are proud to be patrons.

"People have travelled from all over the UK to take part – from as far afield as Durham, Devon and Birmingham - and we’ve heard some amazing stories from so many who have been directly, or indirectly, affected by cancer and wanted to give something back.

"I am really proud Adventure Island could offer them this opportunity. And as Southend is officially the warmest and driest part of the UK – we enjoyed superb weather for those brave souls stripping off!”

Mark Bishop, Director of Fundraising at The Prostate Cancer Charity, added: “There is nothing wrong with naked ambition especially when it's for such a worthwhile cause. We are incredibly proud to have been part of such a fantastic, record breaking, day.

"It is wonderful to see so many people joining together to tackle this once neglected disease. We are truly in awe of the courageous characters who bared all in the name of prostate cancer and cannot thank them enough.”
